+ Agricultural Law

Mel Annand has developed and taught the Agricultural Law curriculum at the University of Saskatchewan, as well as obtained a Masters of Law degree out of interest in the area.

We can help you with all aspects of farming business, from corporate restructuring to farm succession and estate planning. We can also help with farm purchases, sales, and financing.

+ Civil Litigation

Great litigators don't need to litigate. Instead, they resolve matters between you and the other side without stepping a foot in court. That way is quicker, cheaper, and gives you more control over the outcome. That's our preferred style.

But, sometimes resolutions aren't possible. When that happens we give you an accurate and realistic description of the court process, as well as the time and cost involved. Then, we take your matter to a judge and give you the best representation money can buy.

+ Criminal Law

Few things are more stressful than facing a criminal charge. The RCMP is against you. The Government is against you. Often, you're separated from your family and your friends no longer trust you.

We can help. No matter who you are, what you've done, or what you didn't do, we're on your team.

Sometimes people don't want a trial. They want to plead guilty to whatever the Crown tells them, hoping to get things over with quickly. Pleading guilty won't always solve the problem. Even if you're guilty of one thing, you may be asked to confess to something else the Crown can't even prove.

The "deal" might not be a deal at all.

Don't risk doing this on your own. You need an experienced lawyer to guide you through the pleading process. We put the Crown to the strictest burden of proof.

You have rights. We protect them.

+ Corporate Commercial

We have a long tradition of serving the commercial law needs of our business clients. We help with business organizations, such as partnerships and incorporation. By working closely with the accounting profession we limit your tax liability.

It's your money, we help you keep it.

+ Family Law

Are you being denied access to your child? Or, if your child lives with you, are you getting the support you're legally entitled to? Maybe you're just looking to get divorced?

These are issues we see everyday. We know what needs to be done.

We draft marriage contracts and cohabitation agreements. They not only stop your partner from entitlement to your property, they can also protect you from assuming your partner's debts and liabilities. Our agreements are tailored to each relationship, and every one is unique.

Family is at the core of every one of us. Legal involvement in this area is among the most emotionally difficult periods of anyone's life. We know this, and we walk you through it every step of the way.

+ Municipal Law

We have extensive experience in acting on behalf of both urban and rural municipalities. In addition, we provide advice on matters involving other local governments, such as school boards and health districts. Our experience allows us to give thoughtful advice on all matters involving local governments.

+ Real Estate

We have an active real estate practice dealing with residential, commercial and farm property. We can help sellers and buyers complete their sales and purchases in a timely manner. We help buyers deal with the complexities of borrowing for the purchase of real estate and the necessary mortgage work.

If you are involved in a purchase or sale we want to hear from you.

+ Wills and Estate Planning

We help many of our clients with Wills and Estate planning. Estate planning should involve all aspects of your business and family life.

In addition to the preparation of a Last Will and Testament, a good estate plan should deal with all of the business questions that would arise on your death. These are issues involving your investments, property, life insurance and other assets.

We will also involve a discussion about the use of Powers of Attorney. A Power of Attorney will allow someone to look after your affairs in the event that you are unable to do so. They may also be used to give someone authority to make health care decisions for you in the event that you are incapacitated.

We are often called upon to help our clients with the administration of estates. We have experience in dealing with all types of estate matters. We help executors deal quickly and efficiently with any business matters that arise in estates.
